Who Am I?

"When I think of Travel, I think of Journey."

I grew up in a suburb off Kuala Lumpur. Up to the time when I was 18, the only country I have ever travelled to internationally was Singapore. I suspect my parents, as many others, thought that saving the money for education was more important than travelling. Travelling, to many in Asia , even today, is a luxury.

This lack of travel, coupled with exposure to books, magazines and the media, cultivated a curiosity in me. As a child, when I was reading books, I would visualise places and people. Yes, I am one of many who think visually.

I imagined tall grass in gold and red when reading Little House on A Prairie. I imagined Nancy Drew's colourful sweaters as I read her adventures while cooling off in front of a table fan in 40 degrees heat. I visualised but also developed a big hunger to see these places for myself.

When I was 12 years old, I chanced upon a cassette by Nat King Cole. I never stopped listening to him. The lyrics of "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square" or the mention of Gibraltar in "Our Love Is Here To Stay" or "The Girl From Ipanema" etc etc...they all had me paint pictures in my mind. I wanted to see these places. Be there where the blossom fell from off the tree or the land and sea the Nature Boy wondered to.

My first travel was to Australia and that was to attend university. It was only when I started working that I started travelling.

Now based in Denmark, I find it to be a good base to travel especially in Europe. Not only does the distance help but other places seem more affordable compared to the high prices here. So here I am...writing about some of my travels.
